Illinois Raises Taxes on Candy

"E" lives in Kansas....but for our other grandchildren living in Illinois, there is bad news!

Bad news for anyone with a sweet tooth... those sugary snacks and a whole lot more every day products are about to get more expensive. Today Illinois sales taxes are going up more than 500% on a variety of candies and soft drinks.

Illinoisans who have been trying to cut back on sweets have a new motivation. Sales tax is going up from 1 to 6.25 % on some of their favorite items!

  1. Oh, that little one is in for such a wonderful sweet treat!

    And the life-long addiction begins!

    Wonderful picture!
    Beautiful baby!
    All the best,

  2. I don't know what to think? What do you think? I don't like the idea of the government getting more and more into our personal life. Yet, this may be the consequences of not taking our responsibilty for healthy eating and training of our kids and grandkids. I am still mulling this over.

  3. I think that if the tax is truly a desperate economic move, it is less scary. However, if people truly are "hurting" and give up sweets (which I doubt), what will they tax next? If it is a move to enforce healthy eating, I am against it! Does that answer you question :)
